Meet Gavin
Gavin Gold was born in Cape Town, South Africa. It was the dark days of apartheid. This inspired him to write many songs as a form of rebellion against the rigid and conservative thinking of the time.
Music impacted Gavin's life at very young age. His world changed forever when he first heard The Beatles. Awkwardly strumming a few chords, he wrote his first song at the tender age of eleven. Straight after high school, he immersed himself in the Johannesburg music scene; writing, recording and performing at hundreds of venues nationwide. He stirred up interest with records companies and eventually signed a publishing deal with Peer Music, South Africa. In the 1980’s he was guitarist and lead vocalist in the successful South African punk pop band, “Switchtalk”. In 2013 the band played a revival concert at "The Mercury Lounge" in Cape Town, much to the delight of their loyal fans. In the early 1990's when apartheid was still in the air, he joined keyboardist, singer and producer Abe Sibiya to form a multi racial duo. They toured extensively in South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland to great acclaim. In 2012 Gavin Gold and Jo Popp formed the vibrant cover duo “The Professors” performing at weddings, private parties, corporate functions and festivals throughout South Africa and internationally. Over the years Gavin has given music lessons, sharing his guitar skills with others. He currently lives in New York City continuing on his musical journey.
