Meet Leanne
Leanne Singh - Flute
Leanne Singh (she/her) is an active NYC-based freelance flutist and music educator. As a chamber musician and orchestral player, she has performed in notable venues such as Carnegie Hall, Skirball Center, Philadelphia's Kimmel Center, NJPAC, The French Consulate in NYC, and more. She can also be heard on a variety of commercial albums. She holds an undergraduate degree in Flute performance and Masters in Music Education, both from NYU.
Prior to stepping away from full time teaching in NYC public schools to focus on performing and other projects, Leanne spent the first 6 years of her professional career teaching full time, building an instrumental music program at 75 Morton (MS 297). In 2024, she founded Ensemble Room NYC, a series of small group music classes focused on collaborative and creative music-making with offerings for all ages, experience levels, and instruments.
Prior to the pandemic, Leanne founded and served as the artistic director of Femmelody Chamber Music Collective, an NYC-based collective with the mission of giving the historically silenced voices of women in classical music a new chance to sing out. She contracted, curated and performed in chamber music concerts featuring women musicians performing works by women, and established an Open Mic/Talkback series focused on celebrating the vibrant artistic voices of today's women.
Leanne's teaching style is warm and firm, and she has a keen intuition into how to support her students as both musicians and people. She maintains high standards of her students while centering joy and laughter in the process of learning music.
When she is not working, Leanne can be found strolling Fort Tryon Park in Upper Manhattan with her husband, Satya, and their dog, Cooper.
